Tenor Jung Yong Kim was born in Seoul, Korea, as a young boy, Jung Yong was recognized as having enormous potential as a singer, winning many awards and competitions in Korea, before attending the renowned Verdi Conservatory in Milano, Italy where he graduated with high marks. He moved to the United States and earned an Artist Diploma at Montclair University.

Jung Yong’s operatic debut was in the role of ‘Orfeo’ in 2007 at the Teatro Bibiena in Mantova, Italy. He later went on to sing Nemorino in ‘L’elisir d’amore’ and solidified his position as a highly esteemed lyrico through his performances as Duca in Rigoletto and Alfredo in La traviata. After his success in Italy he moved to the United States, adding such productions as Il Giovedi Grasso (Ernesto), La Boheme (Rodolfo), Die Fledermaus (Alfred), Madama Butterfly (Pinkerton), Don Pasquale (Ernesto) to his repertoire.

Jung Yong has been featured as the tenor soloist in several oratorio and concert performances, including Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Creation, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Mozart’s Requiem, Verdi’s Requiem.

Jung Yong has received numerous awards from the following competitions: Finalist Serge & Olga Koussevitzky Young Artist Awards, Finalist New York Lyric Competition, 2nd Prize NATS Artist Award Competition, 1st prize Riverside Opera Competition , 1st prize of UNESCO(Orfeo) International Competition , ’34th 3rd of JOONG-ANG Competition, Finalist 47th Dong-A Competition, 1st prize and Prize of Best performance at Sungjung Competition, 2nd of Ehwa Kyunghyang Competition, 2nd prize of Music Journal Competition.

Tenor Jung Yong Kim’s greatest appeal as a performer is the passion he has for his craft. The long years of training and honing his performance in the Italian opera scene has yielded a performer that emotes to make a cathartic connection with his audience. Jung Yong’s ability to flexibly work with many vocal colorization is just the icing on the cake for this bona fide tenor.
